Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier's Reading Challenge is an initiative of the NSW state government with principal support from the Dymocks Literacy Foundation and The Sun Herald and associate support from OPSM. The challenge aims to encourage in students a love of reading for leisure and pleasure, and to enable students to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.
Students in Year 7 to Year 9 can register online from March 1st. They can do this from the school library or from home. At least 20 books must be read by September 1st. Fifteen of these books must be from the Premier Reading Challenge list and 5 may be books of their own choice. Students may read any books on the Year 5 to Year 6 and Year 7 to Year 9 reading lists.
Richmond High School library holds at least 600 books on the reading lists. These include fiction, non-fiction, biographies, picture books and graphic novels. These lists may be accessed through the student portal website and staff are currently labelling all the Premier Reading Challenege books to make it easier to recognise these on the shelves.
To register for the challenge, ask the school librarian or visit the Premiers Challenge website.
