Year 7 Extension Class

Richmond High School offers an application-based Extension Class for Year 7 students, with an aim to foster academic excellence and personal growth through enriched learning opportunities. The class provides curricular extension and co-curricular activities within the intellectual, creative, social-emotional, and physical domains.

Applications for 2027 are now open

We are now accepting applications for the 2027 Year 7 Extension Class until Term 2, Week 8. Students currently enrolled in Year 6 who are seeking greater educational challenges by way of tailored in-class enrichment are encouraged to submit an application.

The application form takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and gathers information from both you and your child. Please note that you are required to upload a copy of your child's Year 5 NAPLAN results and Year 5 Report.

Class Overview

The Richmond High School Year 7 Extension Class is a specialist academic program designed to challenge, extend and support students who demonstrate high potential and giftedness across multiple domains of the HPGE Framework.

Enrolment in the Extension Class is determined through a staged application process, which identifies student's developmental and academic strengths.

The class is facilitated by expert teachers who are committed to high expectations, academic excellence and student growth.

Students who are successful in placement will generally remain in the Extension Class throughout Year 7 and Year 8, completing their Stage 4 schooling within the class framework.

Our Extension Class adheres to the NSW Department of Education's policies on HPGE and our implementation of the program utilises official research to support HPGE students.

When is the application period?

Applications open in Week 2, Term 2 and remain open until Week 8.

After submitting an application, you will be notified of the outcome before Week 3, Term 3.

Are applicants from outside the local enrolment area able to apply?

Yes, we do accept and consider out-of-area enrolments for the Extension Class.

Communication between the applicant's current primary school and Richmond High School is vital when considering these applications. The final outcome is at the discretion of both Principals, to ensure the most effective outcome for the student.

What student attributes are needed for the Extension Class?

The Year 7 Extension Class is selectively for students who demonstrate high potential and giftedness across multiple domains of the HPGE Framework.

How is the Extension Class different to other Year 7 classes?

What subjects are studied in the Extension Class?
Students will undertake the same pattern of study as all Year 7 classes, with added complexity. The Extension Class differs in the higher learning opportunities and increased student expectations. The Extension Class additionally focuses on long-term projects within subject areas, which allow for greater depth of study.
