The study of a language is compulsory for 100 hours in one continuous year. At Richmond High School these hours are completed in Year 7. In years 9 & 10 students may choose to continue to study a language for their ROSA, however, students are encouraged to inquire with their Deputy Principal to confirm what languages are available for study. In Years 11 and 12 language study is available through enrolment with the School of Languages or via Saturday School.
Language study allows students to develop communication skills, learn about languages as systems and explore the relationship between language and culture. Students engage with the linguistic and cultural diversity of societies as well as reflect on their understanding of their own language and culture.
